MOYO-Hörsaalkino for a good cause

Yesterday, a screening of the documentary political thriller ‘Thank You for the Rain’ took place at the Agnes Heller House at the university.

The film is about Kenyan farmer Kisilu Musya, who picks up a camera and films the effects of climate change in his village. Rain used to be a blessing for the drought-stricken area where he lives. But now flash floods are sweeping away the crops and a devastating storm has destroyed his house. Kisilu does not give up; he organises meetings with the local population to convince them of the need for local climate protection measures. Documentary filmmaker Julia Dahr accompanies Kisilu as he takes up the fight against the destruction of his crops and the powerlessness in the village. Kisilu eventually travels to the UN Climate Summit in Paris as a representative of small farmers and advocates for courageous political decisions there as well.

After the film screening and brief statements by Dr Wolfgang Gurgiser, coordinator of the Alpine Research Centre at the University of Innsbruck, a lively discussion ensued. The focus was on the roles of the world’s major political and econocmic decision-makers, who have been unable to agree on climate targets at various climate summits.

Ultimately, numerous voluntary donations for our project were collected that evening.

Many thanks to all participants. Asante Sana! Special thanks go to our sponsor, the Province of Tyrol.
