MOYO hosted a film screening on the topic of fast fashion

Together with the Austrian Student Union/Sustainability Department and the University of Innsbruck, MOYO hosted a film screening on the topic of fast fashion on 8 May at 6pm.
In the cosy SOFA room in Josef-Hirn-Strasse, the documentary film ‘The true cost’, which takes an unsparing look behind the scenes of the global textile industry, was shown over sacks and drinks. Questions such as: ‘Who really pays for our cheap clothes?’
‘What are the social and ecological consequences of our consumer behaviour?’ were addressed in the film. Afterwards, there was plenty of space for dialogue, reflection and discussion. New perspectives on fashion and consumption were developed! Great vouchers for Greenroot and the Leokino cinema were raffled off among the visitors.

In addition to leading the discussion, MOYO’s contribution was to highlight the impact of cheap Asian fashion on the African clothing market. Dumping goods from Asia completely destroys local structures and businesses because they are no longer competitive. This deprives local people of their livelihoods.

MOYO was also represented with a stand where sustainable African handicrafts made by our supported girls were presented and sold.

In the same week, a sustainable sewing workshop was held at the Nadelöhr sewing café.

Many thanks for your attendance and support!

Special thanks go to our sponsors: the University of Innsbruck and the sponsor, the Province of Tyrol
